You've Been Service Industried

I work in the service industry now and I have noticed a few things. People are rude. Not all people but a lot of people are very rude or short with me and I have no idea why. Yeah I have to ask you about getting a credit card with us because it's my job. I am not in charge of the credit card division and I could care less if you got one or not but you don't have to be so rude about saying no. I understand that people don't want more credit cards to add to their wallet these days. Just say no politely and realize that I am just doing my job.

Same thing goes for your telephone and e-mail address. I want them because you can get coupons which in turn will save you money when you come in next time. Your phone number will get coupons sent to your house every few weeks. Something that I am okay with but it clogs up your mailbox with actual physical mail and you will most likely throw it away. Giving me your e-mail address gets you electronic coupons that you don't even have to print out and bring in. All you have to do is write down the sales associate code and tell us when you are at the register. As well as not needing to print it out you can dispose of it with the click of a button. Or you could be like my fiance and just leave all of your spam in your inbox and just read the good stuff.

Here is the other thing about the e-mail. You always mention that you get to much junk already. I have signed up for just about anything that has an e-mail address attached to it and I get maybe 50 e-mails a day. I probably only read/look at 20, at most, of those 50 and I delete approximately 15 of those 20. I can do all of that in about 10 minutes. What do I do with the rest of the e-mails that I don't read you may ask. Well there is this nifty invention that the people who run e-mail sites created that allows you to click a little check box next to the e-mail that allows you to move it or delete it without ever actually opening it. I use this little tool all the time. I mean if I got a nickel for every e-mail I deleted I would be a multi-millionaire right now.

I have so much more but I feel that it is getting late and you don't care to continue reading my nonsense. Just know that you have the power to make my job easier by allowing me to enter your phone number and e-mail address when you shop. You are even doing me a favor because I can get rewarded for getting the most. Make a fake e-mail address that you never check but once a month to delete everything and use that. Give me an exes phone number and e-mail address so they can be cascaded with deals for something they may never need. I don't care as long as I get a phone number and e-mail address. I just want you to think of the good you are doing for the person behind the counter when you give that information.
