Life In A Forward Backward Motion

In the almost two weeks since I have posted a lot of (I am going to say shit here but I promise that it will be the only time I use shit in the entire blog) shit has happened. For one I went to a Super Bowl party. This is an unusual thing for me to do as I have no desire to watch sports, learn about sports, or generally acknowledge that sports exist. I have lived my life without sports for over 25 years and I plan on going another 25 without them. As I understand the game High Warlock Manning of the South-Northeast Warlocks  bested High Wizard Brady of the North-Northeast Wizards and their was much rejoicing... somewhere on the east coast. I am sure that had I known more about what it means to "play" football and how one can make a game with four 15 minute quarters last four hours (this must have something to do with all the spells they keep throwing and intercepting and fumbling messing with the space time continuum) I would have been impressed with Manning's Warlock like powers of football besting.

In all honesty I would have liked better commercials (I think I may have to get a Chevy though if the world is going to end) and a little more liveliness on the part of my fellow party-goers. Yet what happened before the game started a firestorm of passion of the likes I have never seen before from the people of the Pacific Northwest. On Super Bowl Sunday Joshua Powell, a man suspected of killing his wife in Utah and hiding her in the desert while his two boys were with him, had a supervised visit with his two boys and proceeded to hack their necks with a hatchet and set his house on fire.

The details are gruesome and despicable but what happened afterwards was almost worse. In the aftermath of the incident there was blame thrown all over. People blamed the social worker for not having the address at hand when asked. They blamed the 911 operator for not working faster to get the police or firefighters there. They wanted the rescue workers to have worked faster and blame was thrown all over. Not that people didn't blame Powell for his despicable act but they were so angry with him they pretty much skipped over their blame for him. It was unavoidable as a news story for over a week. I feel so sad about the Powell boys (I might even admit to some form of emotion in regards to the whole situation) but in times of tragedy the best thing to do is to grieve and move on.

I hope no one kills anymore children. The murder of children is a despicable act and the death of a child is tragic beyond belief. Let us rejoice Pacific Northwest that life is moving forward. That Washington has become state #7 to legalize marriage for all couples. That Seattle may finally get the Supersonics back (which I think has something to do with hedgehog racing). Spring is in the air (no matter what that pesky groundhog says). Life will get better and we will move on. We hopefully will never forget the Powell boys and hopefully the Utah police will find Susan's body and confirm what we all suspect. Until then we should live life to the fullest and move past these despicable and disgusting acts.
