Letter To Anonymous

Dear Anonymous,

I know that you have the technical expertise to make my blog disappear and the ability to post my personal information online. I care not for those things. I feel you have gone far enough in your attacks against people, companies, and organizations. I think that you you are causing more harm then good and can technically be classified as a terrorist organization.

I understand that you wear the Guy Fawkes mask because of V for Vendetta. You want to represent anarchy in your protests. Yet is anarchy really a good thing? I mean you like the Internet right? The Internet wouldn't work like it does today in a society without any rules. You like the ability to protest without threat of the guy walking by being able to beat you up because he disagrees? This ability would be gone an a society without rules. Without the rules you so hate and wish to get rid of you would not be able to fight the things you hate.

That is the other thing. Guy Fawkes intended for the Gunpowder Plot not to destroy the government and create anarchy. He helped plan the plot to get rid of King James I and his Church of England government and install his 9 year old daughter Elizabeth on the throne as a Catholic Leader. As well, Guy Fawkes was just a follower of the movement that was actually started by Robert Catesby. To top it all off, even though the plot to blow up parliament failed, because of the wide-spread nature of the conspiracy Catholics actually got more freedoms in England after that and are now allowed to worship as they so choose.

I get that you want the companies, organizations, and people you feel have wronged you to get their just desserts but have you every thought of the long-term consequences? Have you ever thought that you really aren't anonymous at all? It is actually possible for the government to track you down through IP addresses and worm trackers. I mean you will eventually bite the hand that feeds you and all hell will break loose. I mean when you hack the Bank of America website and ruin shut it down that is all fine and well to make the execs over there have a bad day but have you thought about the BoA customers? Have you stopped to think that they have done nothing wrong but use a bank that is readily accessible from all over the country?

What about hacking the Playstation network and shutting it down for days. I understand that you are mad at them because they won't let you fuck with their intellectual property and will prosecute those they catch doing it. Yet have you ever thought about what you would do to someone that was fucking up something you spent billions of dollars developing, making, and marketing? No you haven't. They have every right to not want you to  do those things. Just like they have every right to prosecute you for downloading movies, music, and video games illegally. I mean the warning has been at the beginning of every VHS tape, DVD, Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, Laser-Disc, CD, Video Game Cartridge, and Disc since the dawn of take home media. Does it not occur to you that that warning is there, from the FBI no less, for a reason.

Maybe you just can't read and I am thinking to much into it and as I see you as petulant children that don't know when to stop his could be the case. Maybe instead of spending your time hiding behind masks and ruining the lives of innocent people, and costing the government tons of money, come out of the shadows, take some reading lessons and start to make an actual difference in the world.

Your anonymity is what will destroy you.
